Hundreds of thousands of families move into new homes everyday and moving can be exciting as well as stressful. Possibly the most frustrating thing about moving is packing up of all of your belongings which can leave you feeling overwhelmed so much so that you do not even know where to begin.
We have drawn up a list of useful tips that can make the entire process of moving a lot simpler.
- Use boxes of the right size
While packing the things, put the heavier stuff like books into smaller boxes and the large boxes should be kept aside for lighter items like pillows and linens which take up space but are easier to carry. If you pack heavy things in large boxes then moving it becomes very difficult and it gets unnecessarily hard.
- Pack the boxes without leaving any empty space in it
When you have put in all the things that you can possibly fit into a box and still have some empty space left then the stuff inside the box will move and unbalance the box. So pack in these empty spaces with some towels, clothing or other such soft material such that the box remains firmly packed.
- Assign different boxes for different rooms
Never mix things from two different rooms in a single box. Choose a large or a small box according to the number of things that need to be packed and keep things separate. This will come in handy while unpacking as you can tackle one room at a time like this.
- Label the box
Once you have filled and packed the box and taped it shut then label the box in a manner that you can understand as to what has been packed into it. This will be of great help while unpacking since you can pick those boxes first which have your essentials in them and save the others for last.
- Bundle up the breakables
Things like the dishes which may break easily need to be packed up in bundles of 5 or 6 using of lots of packing paper between each one of the dishes and then wrapping the entire set as well. Use a lot of bunched up newspaper or wrapping paper as padding in order to cushion it against damage while being moved. Cups and bowls too can be packed up in the same manner to keep them safe an intact.
- Pack up your essentials in a single box
Things that you may need right after moving into your new home like toiletries and a couple of sets of clothes should be packed up in a single box. Label the box very prominently or keep this box in your car. This box should contain everything that you may need to satisfy all of your immediate requirements.
Following the above mentioned tips may help you remain stress free not just while packing but also while unpacking considering the fact that it is completely organised.
