Spring cleaning is one of those few times when the entire house gets a good scrubbing from top to bottom. It is not always easy to get it done and it is always a challenge to figure out where to begin from. We have decided to put together some tips which will help you get done with spring cleaning a lot faster than usual.
1. Begin with the doormats
Doormats are one of those things in your home which needs to get the toughest cleaning. Swat them, shake them and wash them. They are the barriers which stop the dirt from getting into your home so give them a good scrub.
2. Clean upholstery and carpets
The upholstery and carpets of your home have taken in dirt all through the winter and they need some heavy cleaning. While shampooing the carpets either hire someone to do it or of you are doing it by yourself then begin with a small practice area to ensure that the treatment isn’t discolouring the fabric. Move the furniture off the carpet and when you are done with the shampooing place small wax squares underneath the legs of the furniture to protect it until the carpet dries up.
3. Finish your floors
Protect the flooring in your kitchen by waxing it or applying a sealer which will prevent wear and tear. Once you are done with the waxing, apply a protective buffer which will help it last a lot longer and easy to maintain. If the rest of your house too has wooden floors then move out the furniture and carry out the exact same procedure to protect them as well. If it is difficult to move out the furniture then move them all to one half of the room, polish it and then tackle the other half.
4. Wash the walls, baseboards, cabinets and woodwork
It may not seem like the walls get very dirty but a lot of dust and even soot clings onto the walls which is the reason why they need a good ‘bath’ in spring. Use a dishwashing detergent and sponge to clean the area. Clean one section at a time. A sponge mop too can be used to do the same. Use a clean cloth to dust away the woodwork and cabinets.
5. Clean fixtures on the ceiling
Dust definitely accumulates on the fan, air conditioner vents, light fixtures and other decorative hangings, if you have any. If possible get them down and clean them using a clean cloth. Else you can simply use the soft nozzle attachment on the vacuum to get the cleaning done for the fans. For the light fixtures get a cleaner, sponge and polish cloth. Use a step ladder to comfortably reach in those intricate spaces.
Following the above mentioned tips may help to get the spring cleaning done a lot easily. When done in an organised manner, it will not seem to be a giant work load and may even be fun.
